The most common problem of BMW ZF plated Limited slip differentials found in early models (E30, E36, E34…) is cross pin failure.
When clutch discs wear out, LSD units slips more than it should creating extra friction between small spider gears (satellites) and pins.
This leads to cross pin failure.
This can be tremendous problem, as they aren’t available as spare part, so basically you have to get a second differential.
